"They looked at the serpent, looked at the fruit, and decided that God was not enough." An accurate and heartbreaking synopsis of what occurred in the garden and daily ever since. Powerful. But of course the story ends in hope!

Thank ou Pastor for this recollection. It is good to remember I think that we should recall that this original sin is the one actual sin for which Jesus died. Every other act and disposition we call sin is actually the result of this one sin. This may seem just another insignificant assertion until we recognize that the original sin, the one Christ actually died to mitigate its devastating effect upon our race, is the singular and first direct act of rebellion against God of our race from which all others only descend. It is the one that we too, having also become Sons of our Father, must become participants in its mitigation within us as well. It is our victory a the hands of our Savior over this one sin of rebellion against our God that will result in victory over all others.

This was rich. No pun intended. 😉

This brought to mind three things.

Psalm 1:1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the way of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

It's a progression and before we know it, we have backslidden and are questioning God.

Timothy 4:3-4  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

And, temptation to skip prayer is strong when we know we need to go to God in repentance. We want to do what Adam and Eve did; our excuses are our fig leaves.
